Rock climbing in a castle

Ever fancied climbing a castle? Well, now you can at the Castle Climbing Centre, although it’s actually a grand Victorian pumping station that boasts some of the largest climbing walls in the capital.

Run by climbers, for climbers, they’ve ensure there’s something for every visitor – from beginners to advanced – with over 450 routes and 90 or so roped liners spread throughout what’s really a rather fascinating building. For those less adventurous, there’s a cafe where you can sit and work up the courage with a good salad and, for the fearless, there’s also the option to abseil the height of the building from outdoors.

It’s an added bonus to note that food for the cafe is grown organically in the large garden at the rear of the building, which is also open to the public.
