Gateway to the Capital

Opened in the year 2000, the Thames Barrier Park boasts 14-hectares within London’s docklands, just next to the Thames Barrier, which you can see from well positioned viewpoints. The barrier itself is one of the largest movable flood barriers in the world and protects much of central London’s most important buildings such as the Houses of Parliament, spanning up to 520 metres across the River Thames with its distinctive steel shape.

The park is a popular place to frequent – especially in the summer owing to its 32 different fountains and riverside promenade, ideal for strolling along. There are wild flower meadows, novelty-shaped hedges that are reminiscent of waves, and a sunken garden that provides a sheltered microclimate for flora and fauna. A great destination for families or those interested in the waterways and architecture of the capital.
