Cocktail bar in a Victorian toilet
We’ve told you of underground cafes and supper clubs, but how do you fancy cocktails in a disused subterranean toilet? Ladies and Gentleman is just that – a underground cocktail bar with history.
Blink and you’ll miss it, it sits at the bottom of a short flight of stairs in a central reservation of the main Kentish Town road (that’s Highgate Road to be exact). It’s small but perfect for clandestine occasions, tucked away from the busy streets above, and serving cocktails prepared by young and chatty staff.
Find a cosy corner to settle down in and you could quite forget that it used to be a toilet, especially since it serves drinks crafted from homemade liquors, and Kentish Town’s very own ‘Highway Gin’ made in 16-litre copper still on the premises. Ingredients are locally sourced – from Kentish Town honey, to fruits from Hampstead Heath allotments – making the bar a haven for locals, and for visitors to the area alike.
